Gavin's Biography

As an award-winning Director/ Cameraman and occasional Producer I have experience in documentary, corporate, sport and news production.

I specialise in remote, hostile and other environments or projects where it's not always desirable or possible to send a larger crew.  Having worked extensively overseas including remote parts of Africa and the Middle East and with all three services of the British Armed Forces, I am attracted to the challenge of creating powerful, effective and striking content whether embedded in Iraq, filming wildlife on a remote island in the Atlantic or from a tent on the side of a Scottish mountain.

My experience as a Producer means I am acutely aware of the importance of being sympathetic to schedules and budgets whilst always mindful that the core of any production should be a compelling story.

I am a firm believer in the benefit of multi-skilling where it brings increased and appropriate value to a production. As a result I am able to edit confidently and creatively using a wide range of industry standard NLEs, several to online standard.

I am equally comfortable with working alone on fast-turnaround, time-limited productions as I am working on more complex, higher-end shoots with larger lighting and production teams.

I am also aware that technical and creative skills are only part of what's required on a production and approach every project with good humour, openness, flexibility and professionalism.

Additionally, I have a wide-ranging background in the industry. As a radio news producer I spent time working in West Africa as well as working undercover with prostitutes and interviewing terrorists in Northern Ireland. I have also worked as a print journalist and my work has appeared in The Guardian, The Scotsman and The List.
