Putting Beckett on Film - Blue Angel Films
, United Kingdom
2001 - Director
Shot over a 12 month period, I wrote and directed the story of how 19 Samuel Beckett plays were transformed into film by some of the biggest names in the business.
I conducted all the face to face interviews, including those with Anthony Minghella, John Hurt, Jeremy Irons, Neil Jordan, Alan Rickman, Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Conor McPherson and Juliet Stephenson.
Late into the project, the brief changed - growing to include six extra "intro" packages to accompany the transmission of the films on RTÉ (the budget did not increase, neither was the deadline extended). Pressure on delivery was formidable. Not only was the deadline made, but we also came in under budget. Check the Gate - Putting Beckett on Film was subsequently included in the Beckett on Film DVD box set.
The Beckett on Film project won the 'Best TV Drama' award at the South Bank Show Awards in 2002.
