The Last Word Television - Tape & Camera Assistant
My role has gone further than the job title, becoming the in house camera operator, researching and developing broadcast ideas, but also given me a Production Assistant role. Organising camera men and crew for corporate productions, writing up call sheets and booking equipment from various facility houses. I have also been part in charge of creating content for London Irish Rugby club's Iphone app as an assisting client manager, requiring me to be a self shooting director and editor, and hiring freelance crew where necessary. From this I have gained huge experience in approaching client and crew needs.
November 09 - August 2010:
Onsight ( Axis Films ) - Driver / Assistant Camera Technician
This was an excellent learning and training opportunity. Giving me a huge insight into the broadcast industry and into the capabilities and uses of a huge array of equipment. I gained a useful understanding for new technology within HD and especially 3D television, with experiences setting up 3D rigs with various cameras from SI - 2Ks to the more complicated RED camera rigs, and the newer ARRI Alexa
25th June - 12th July 2010
Summer Dance Festival Coventry 2010 - Director, Camera/Editor.
A bi annual dance festival featuring international artistic professionals. Required video documenting for promotional material such as DVDs for dance institutions, professionals and web material.
October 2008 - June 2009:
Blaze TV - Director/Producer (Camera/Editor)
Within a team of 4, I ran an online TV channel for the Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team who play within the Elite League, the top league of English ice hockey. We filmed with a minimum of 2 cameras per home game and edited together the footage, putting highlights on the channel before 7am the next morning. We produced a range of DVDs for the ice hockey club to sell in store. With over 1,000 views each week, and a total over 100,000, the channel put me through all production areas, such as camera work, sound, journalism and editing, creating professional quality work.
14th - 25th April 2008:
GMTV / Entertainment Today - Researcher - Studio Experience
I carried out research on future guests coming on the show and creating bios of them for producers to create scripts from.
Most mornings I shadowed different members of the studio and gallery staff including the Director. Giving me a clear understanding of the running of live TV.
I also assisted on many out VT shoots, such as interviews with celebrities, which was great opportunity to work closely with presenters and camera operators. This further went to shadowing the edit process and logging tapes. For my good efforts I was awarded a small role on the show.
23rd October 2007 - June 2008:
Coventry City Football - Camera Operator / Gallery Assistant
This was a project through CeMap(a research unit for Coventry University). I worked as part of the crew filming home matches for the club, which streamed live to a large stadium screen. I also managing replays, preparing adverts and Vision Mixing. This was a live environment where being able to handle the pressures of a live event was vital for a smooth operation and getting praise from the fans and club.
20 September 2009:
NHS AMG Conference Loughborough/Live webcast - Camera Operator
I worked as camera operator but also helped set up equipment fro the web stream. It required good awareness, composition skills and initiative to an unscripted and undirected event. The webcast was successful and I received very positive feedback on my performance.
23 May 2008 :
Manchester Body Works/Live webcast - Camera Operator
One of two covering a science conference for a live web stream to other scientific establishments. This was a live event with members of the public, scientific academics debating over the controversial anatomist.
Required me to be confident with my decisions to capture audience reactions.
4th - 14th April 2008:
Pinewood Studios :WOLF MAN - Location Assistant/Marshall
Helping with the logistics of the film set, e.g, making sure the 'A' listed location was protected and giving clear instructions to cast and crew.
Again following instructions and showing intuition helped.
These were cold night shoots so helping other departments where necessary and regular rounds of tea, coffee or hot chocolate kept moral high.
16th April - 20th April 2007:
"Miss Pettigrew Lives for a day" by Phenomenon Pictures: Runner
I worked alongside the Location Manager and Assistants preparing sets.
Used my local knowledge of the area to find equipment and resources.
I assisted other members of the production as needed.
Used my organisational and logistical skills to keep track of spending and deliver important messages and instructions.
