About Guy

  • Share profile:
Documentary director, producer & writer specialising in arts, biography and history. Made films for Channel 4, BBC2, BBC4, A&E and Nat Geo. V good relations with BBC and Channel 4 factual and arts. Plenty of experience working with presenters and best known for making intelligent but accessible films, often visually experimental.

I self-shoot on Z1, EX-3 (with nanoflash when necessary), and Canon 5D Mk II with a variety of tilt-shift lenses.  I have directed and self-shot on helicopter shoots and directed multi-cam actuality shoots of upto 5 cameras.

I am currently edit producing a number of films for Wag TV's Nat Geo series Ancient X Files.  Earlier in the summer, I spent a few months as edit producer on Planet Word, a 5 part BBC2 primetime series about language, presented by Stephen Fry, broadcast end September 2011.

I am particularly skilled as an interviewer.  Have worked as print journalist and writer at the Observer and the New York Nation. Earlier this year I authored a book about Oberlin College in Ohio, a combination of themed essays and assemblies of images. The book's website can be found at http://www.oberlinbook.com/

Last year I directed, produced & narrated a presenter-less version of the 6 hour BBC series Ancient Worlds- a history of the roots of civilisation, from Mesopotamia to St Augustine and the collapse of the western Roman Empire - for BBC Worldwide.

A 2009 film I wrote, directed & narrated (and self-shot much of), Herta Muller:  Writing Against Terror, a 30' film with exclusive access to the 2009 Nobel literature laureate, was shown on More4 and has been sold worldwide.
