BBC London Factual: Origins Of Us, Presented by: Dr Alice Roberts
• Organised and attended shoots in USA, Kenya, Tanzania and the UK
• Organised several natural history shoots including: lion kill, mole rats, sea squirts
• This production required me to reproduce scientific experiments suitable for TV.
• My favorite experiment I devised for this programme enabled us to show on TV that human saliva is more effective than chimpanzee saliva. Making this experiment work was tricky. A trainer at Twycross zoo and I had to work with a team of chimpanzees and get them to produce as much spit as possible. The secret is to give them all a good drink of water and then make sure you use just the right amount of bread flour and iodine. This shows that I am persistent, resourceful and luckily can remember my GCSE chemistry. These qualities enabled us to show a complicated piece of science in a very simple and highly visual way that a TV audience can understand immediately.
